GBD Remarks: Polytypic species in the Caucasus. Subspecies brevicaudata described for the most of eastern Caucasus, subspecies Ioriensis - for local area in the eastern Georgia, subspecies Gruzinica - in the western Caucasus, including Colchis valley (Muskhelishvili, 1970), subspecies Boehmica - in the NE Caucasus. Molecular genetic study of Kalyabina (2001) support basal position of boemica in respect to all other subspecies found from W Europe through W Siberia and Near East, whereas other Caucasian subspecies are closer to the E European exigua.
